MAY 11 & 12

Corey Perry has been training Border Collies for over 30 years. He grew up on a 350 head cow-calf ranch in High Prairie, Alberta. His first Border Collie lived his life working on the family farm. In 2001, Corey and his family moved to Drayton Valley, Alberta. He bought a couple dogs and began training and competing with them. His first trial dogs, Ben and Jill were very successful, and he still competes with the descendants of Jill. Corey has had a lot of success with Stock Dog Trials, both in the arena and the field. He thoroughly enjoys taking in young dogs and training them. Corey has entered both arena and field trials across North America. The last few years, he has added cattle dog trials to his resume. Corey has taught clinics for over 15 years both in Canada, as well as Brazil where he has done several stock dog and judging clinics.

Corey and his dog, Mirk won the World Stock Dog Championship in Calgary in 2015. He also placed well in numerous field trials, notably the prestigious and very difficult Meeker Classic. Corey has won both the Agribition and Northlands arena Trials.

Corey’s genetics and training have led to many successes. Mirk’s granddaughter, Ruby, has won many open field trials. She was the reserve Nursery champion at the 2016 Canadian Championship, as well as qualifying in the Open Double Lift Final.

Another dog Corey trained, Kate, went on to win the 2017 Continental Championship, and was a qualifier in the National Finals, in 2016 and 2017, in both the Nursery and Open classes. She was only 2 years old.  Corey bred and trained Drift who went on to win the Western Canadian Nursery class and was Open trial Champion in the U.K. and Canada. In 2023, Corey’s young dogs Treat, Vaughn and Bro all qualified to participate in Championships in 2024.

Darhl has had Border Collies for over 45 yrs. Six years ago, he started trialing and got hooked on the sport. Darhl has won many open and pro-novice championships in both sheep dog and cow dog trials. Darhl offers training at his ranch. Check out his Facebook page: “Woodpecker Stock Dog Training”.

This is the third clinic Darhl has done for Cariboo Stock Dogs. Darhl has a calm & quiet training style that puts the most nervous handler at ease. We are grateful that Darhl brings his own fantastic sheep.

This 2-day clinic is open to all levels of dogs and handlers. Come with some solid obedience and a training goal. If there is space, a handler can bring a second dog.

SEPTEMBER 21 & 22

Ed Wiebe is a local rancher and stockman who uses stock dogs regularly on the farm.  Ed has been involved with stock dogs most of his life. In 1991, he became more serious about learning and competed in both sheep and cow trials. His hunger for knowledge and his skills grew. This led to an expansion of trialing across the provinces and into the U.S. Ed has put on a few clinics and demonstrations in Canada and abroad. His calm, quiet demeanor and experience makes him a great stockman, clinician, and judge.
